What is Prop 65?
The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly referred to as Proposition 65 ("Prop 65") requires the state of California maintain a list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Prop 65 also applies to businesses that sell products in California, regardless of whether or not the business is located in California. Under Prop 65, businesses must inform Californians about the risk of exposure to these chemicals by including a warning on the product label and/or website (or other approved method).
What is a Prop 65 Warning?
Prop 65 requires businesses include a Prop 65 Warning on their product if the product contains any ingredient which tests above the Safe Harbor Level for the listed chemical. The Safe Harbor Level is a chemical-specific exposure threshold set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA).
When a business includes a Prop 65 Warning on a product label or webpage, it does not mean the product is unsafe. The Prop 65 Warning is included to inform California consumers of the presence of a Prop 65 listed chemical so the consumer can make an informed decision. No other state or country enforces Prop 65.
If a Bridge Performance Labs product contains an ingredient subject to Prop 65, the Prop 65 Warning is placed on the product label, as well as on the product webpage.
